In Honor of Corn Fest...
Today was the 32nd annual Corn Festival. I am a BIG fan. We get to watch a parade, steal a few pieces of candy before the kids get to it, visit with family we don't see that often, peruse booths of handmade items, eat BBQ, listen to music, and, of course, eat corn!!! :) Next year I hope to run in the 5K race with my favorite cousin Perez and get a piece of corn with a cowboy hat!!! Right, Perez?!!?!
My cousin Kristi & kids, cousin Deborah & husband Tommy & kids, Aunt Imogene, cousin Perez, cousin's bf Josh, uncle Ronnie, and sister Vicki were all in attendance this year...we missed aunt Nelwyn (hope you feel better soon!). A good time was had by all.
Last year I didn't get off work and missed the celebration but don't worry...this year I ate enough corn for the last two years. :)
For those of you who are unaware, I can eat my fair share of corn. (They want to enter me in the corn eating contest next year...and I am all about some free corn!!!). Mom loves to tell the story of the time when I ate so much corn that I actually made myself sick.
There was a period of time when I had braces and couldn't eat corn on the cob without cutting it off the cob...a sad, sad day that was. Glad I didn't have to have braces that long!

So in honor of Corn Fest, here is one of my favorite childhood pictures...
LOVELY, NO?! :)
Not exactly sure why we took it??
Perhaps dad took it for a magazine article??
Perhaps we were really bored and had nothing else to do?
Perhaps it was just a nice perk of having a daddy that was a farmer?
I really have no clue why we took it but it surely brings back some good memories. Eating lots and lots of corn, wearing my Minnie Mouse glasses, and being surrounded by corn for the entire summer. Ah, those were the days!! :)
P.S. Vick, I know this is your favorite picture and you love it so...any idea why we took it?? And where the heck is Amanda?! :)

Oh WOW ... I think I will be contacting my lawyer (mental note: find a lawyer)!!!!!!!!!!!
Though you may not believe it, there is, indeed, a story behind that awful picture. The question is ... can I remember the story?
Since it's late right now and I cannot call Mom & Dad for verification, I'll just wing it ....
I think it was supposed to be used for some ad or magazine article. Vaguely remember it occurring sometime around the time Persky Farms starting growing blue corn.
Yes, Amanda had a picture taken too. And, yes, it was equally as {sarcasm} flattering {/sarcasm} as this one. I seem to recall her hair being braided and I think she was wearing a navy poncho-ish shirt. Will look for this picture tomorrow! :D
As for Corn Fest, it was a lot of fun.
You are definitely entering the corn eating contest next year!!!!
BTW, you forgot to add the "dang" story to your HCF #32 recap.
funny!!! a corn eating contest along with everything else. when people ask me what texas is like, is this what i should tell them?! ;-)
This is hysterical! A bit of Americana for the history books!
And Vicki--I feel your pain--I had a picture with that same hairdo and if anything it looked worse on me!
Glad the cornfest was fun! We're having corn for dinner tonight--color Tessa happy!
